Hello

My success with music comes mostly from self-appreciation and self-application with my 20 plus years of music following. Born and raised in Niagara Falls, New York, Atlanta, Georgia has been my home since the mid 80’s.  I have three children, Kimberly M. Ross, and Marcus E. Ross of Atlanta, Keyona S. Johnson of Niagara Falls and 3 grandchildren.  I hold a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Brenau University, a Secondary English Georgia Teacher Certification from the University of West Georgia, and a Master of Secondary English Education from the University of West Georgia. As long as I can share literature, I will keep teaching. As long as we have smooth jazz, I will keep listening, reviewing, and writing.

My Story

As a smooth jazz journalist, I support the smooth jazz genre as I appreciate the sound and recognize the diligence artists and musicians place into their craft. As an educator, I enjoy working with youth as an English Teacher of eleven years and see daily the strong embrace students have for music as well. For this reason, I expose them further to the artistry.  Some students share sincere interests in musical careers, so we dive deeper into the life and times of both current and late artists. Like literature, music is personal and shared from the human condition so there is much to acquire.

With much thanks to my dad, since childhood, I have listened to jazz and as an adult began writing for www.smoothjazzmag.com in spring of 2018. For this online magazine, I review music CDs for the artist and write in-depth reviews for the readership. I attend concerts, shows, and festivals at beautiful venues across the United States and share the excitement of these shows with the readers, listeners, and fans.  Further, I conduct insightful artist interviews by asking pertinent questions so that the audience members attain a current in-depth personal view of what being an artist is like and the inspiration for the music.

My ever-growing treasure chest of writing includes west coast guitarist, Nils, saxophonist, Marion Meadows, saxophonist, Jazmin Ghent, west coast violinist, Josh Vietti, west coast saxophonist, Dave Koz, trumpeter, Willie Bradley, guitarist, Raul Midon, guitarist, Albare (Albert Dadon), saxophonist, Najee, west coast band, DW3, west coast guitarist, Chris Standring, saxophonist, Will Donato, saxophonist, Jeanette Harris, and now Saxophonist Dee Lucas.
